SEAToday.com, Jakarta - House Speaker Puan Maharani asked the government to guarantee the safety of Indonesian citizens (WNI) trapped in the conflict area between India and Pakistan.

"Wherever Indonesian citizens are, the safety of Indonesian citizens must be a priority. The government must ensure the security and safety of our citizens, both in India and Pakistan," said Puan in a statement received in Jakarta, Thursday as reported by Antara.

As is known, recently India has been involved in a conflict with its neighbor Pakistan after an attack on 26 tourists in Kashmir by an armed group against the government.

India also took action by deploying military troops to nine locations in Pakistan. The Indian government claimed that Pakistan had failed to take action against militant groups in its territory.

Pakistan did not remain silent and immediately retaliated by shooting down five Indian fighter jets.

So far, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in New Delhi and Islamabad said that no Indonesian citizens had been victims of the tension.

Nevertheless, Puan asked the government to continue taking action to anticipate the worst-case scenario. "Moreover, local authorities have appealed for evacuation of residents, and there are our citizens who are in the attack area. The state must not be late in saving its citizens," he said.
