SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Sugiono said that Indonesia is ready to play a role in helping Pakistan-India peace if needed. According to him, this is in accordance with the mandate of the constitution.
"The Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia 1945 (UUD 45) mandates Indonesia to actively realize world peace," said Foregin Minister Sugiono in his statement in Jakarta, Friday (16/5/2025) as reported by Antara.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs added that Indonesia hopes that the conflict between India and Pakistan will subside soon. "Because war anywhere by anyone will not bring benefits," he said.
As is known, relations between India and Pakistan have recently heated up after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. India claims that the operation targeted terrorist locations in Pakistan and in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.
The operation was launched after a terrorist attack near the city of Pahalgam, which is in the Indian Jammu and Kashmir region on April 22. India also blamed Pakistan for the attack.
Responding to India, Pakistan also launched a military operation targeting 26 vital points belonging to the Indian military. Currently, the two countries have agreed to a temporary ceasefire.
"We hope that the tension will not continue," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
