Jakarta - Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Sugiono has set the status of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tehran, Iran to alert 1.
"From the developments over the past two days, where the intensity of Israeli attacks has increased, and the targets are not only military targets, but also civilian targets, I have decided to increase the alert level at the Tehran Embassy from alert level 2 to alert 1 in Tehran," said Sugiono in St. Petersburg, Russia, Wednesday (18/6) local time as reported by Antara.
Israel's attack on Iran on Friday (13/6/2025) early morning local time sparked tensions between the two countries. Since the attack, Iran and Israel have sent missiles to each other at certain points.
This has made a number of countries concerned about the safety of their citizens who are in Iran or Israel. Several countries such as Japan, China, Malaysia, and South Korea have issued evacuation orders to their respective citizens.
Sugiono said that currently there are around 380 Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Iran, especially in the Tehran area. Regarding this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to examine the possibility of evacuating Indonesian citizens.
This is part of the preventive measures to deal with the increasingly dangerous situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also established communication with Iran's neighboring countries to facilitate cross-border access if the evacuation process for Indonesian citizens must be carried out in the near future.
"We have also communicated with Iran's neighboring countries, requesting that when the evacuation occurs later, our citizens be given the convenience of crossing their borders because the situation is also increasingly unfavorable," said Sugiono.
