Developing Post-harvest Infrastructure, Perum BULOG Strengthen Food Barns

Seatoday.com, Jakarta Perum BULOG is a state-owned company that is responsible for the material trade system in Indonesia. It has tried to strengthen food storage in various ways. One of them is building post-harvest infrastructure, which consists of the MRMP (Modern Rice Milling Plant), RTR (Rice to Rice), UP (Processing Unit), and CRC (Corn Dying Center).

The 24 post-harvest infrastructures have been developed across several regions in Indonesia, especially areas that become rice and corn barns.
The steps taken by Perum BULOG in providing post-harvest infrastructure are part of a diversification movement that seeks to simplify the flow of food production activities, especially rice and corn grains, using simple technology. It is hoped that this flow of production activities will be able to guarantee the standardization of the quality and hygiene of food products. This movement aims to strengthen food storage in Indonesia.

In his statement, Awaludin Iqbal, the secretary of Perum BULOG, said that they have developed 10 MRMPs in several areas, such as Subang, Sragen, Kendal, Karawang, Lampung, Bojonegoro, Jember, Banyuwangi, and Sumbawa. Some of these areas are rice production centers. By providing MPRP, several food production activities can be carried out, namely drying services, milling services, packaging services, and storage services for milled dry grain (GKG).

Perum BULOG carried out this infrastructure development using State Capital Participation (PMN) funds, which had been managed since 2016, he added.

Perum BULOG has committed to maximizing the absorption of domestic farmers' production, of course at prices set by the government, through the development of post-harvest infrastructure. The main objective of this activity is to strengthen food barns. (JRF)
