SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has launched the Cakrabuana train, serving the Purwokerto-Gambir round trip (PP). This service aims to accommodate people in Banyumas Regency and surrounding areas traveling to Jakarta and back.

The Cakrabuana train was launched at Purwokerto Station, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, on Saturday (1/2/2025).

Cakrabuana train is scheduled to depart from Purwokerto Station at 05.30 WIB and arrive at Gambir Station at 10.24 WIB.

PT KAI (Persero) Commercial Director Hadith Surya Palapa said KAI continues to transform through improvements in technology, feasibility, safety, and infrastructure.

“We always improve the railroad, and we continue to enhance the quality of trains so that they can operate much faster,” he said.

Currently, almost all tracks in Java can accommodate trains traveling at a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

With these improvements, the train travel chart (gapeka) that has been in effect must be adjusted. Therefore, on February 1, 2025, KAI introduced a new gapeka to accommodate these changes in train travel.

“Starting February 1, the number of train trips across Indonesia has increased, especially in the Purwokerto Operating Region (Daop 5), where trips have risen from 96 to 110,” he said.

For trains departing early from Daop 5 Purwokerto, the number has increased to 20 from the previous 16 due to the addition of new train services, one of which is the Cakrabuana train serving Purwokerto-Gambir PP.

Cakrabuana train is an expansion of train services that previously only served the Cirebon-Gambir PP route (Argo Cheribon train).

KAI has launched five new trains starting February 1, 2025, consisting of the Cakrabuana train (Purwokerto-Gambir PP), Sancaka Utara train (Cilacap-Solobalapan-Surabaya Pasarturi PP), Ijen Ekspres train (Ketapang-Malang PP), Gunungjati train (Gambir-Cirebon-Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng PP), and Madiun Jaya train (Madiun-Pasarsenen PP).

The presence of the Cakrabuana train also aims to accommodate population mobility during previously unserved hours, particularly after dawn, and to provide a reliable transportation option for Banyumas, which has numerous universities and tourist attractions.
