Transjakarta: Elderly Dominate 15 Groups Eligible for Free Rides

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) revealed that elderly passengers make up the majority of users benefiting from the capital’s free public transportation program.

“Out of the approximately 70,000 people from the 15 eligible groups, 60 percent are elderly,” said Transjakarta President Director Welfizon Yuza, as quoted on Antara, on Tuesday at Pasaraya Blok M, South Jakarta.

Citizens aged 60 and above are a priority for Transjakarta, Welfizon noted, as they are part of the groups eligible for government subsidies provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government.

“This year, the subsidy allocated by the Jakarta Government to support Transjakarta services amounts to IDR 4.2 trillion,” he added as quoted on Antara.

Transjakarta continues to enhance its services for all 15 categories of riders who qualify for free rides—numbers that are expected to grow.

Jakarta’s government is also coordinating with agencies in neighboring regions to expand this free transport service to cover Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi).

The 15 eligible groups include: Jakarta provincial civil servants and retirees, contract workers, KJP Plus student cardholders, low-income housing residents, PKK (Family Welfare Movement) members, and minimum-wage employees.

To register, eligible residents must contact Bank DKI and provide supporting documents such as ID card, family card (KK), and a passport-sized photo. Registration is also available online through the official Transjakarta Free Service Card website.
