Indonesia and Norway Say Forestry Programs Can Align with Economic Growth

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni and Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen agreed that forestry programs can coexist with economic development.
In an official statement on Friday, Raja Antoni emphasized that development and forest conservation must go hand in hand, as both are essential pillars.
“Development must continue. Forests remain preserved, and people's welfare is ensured. These pillars must not be compromised,” he stated as quoted on Antara.
Minister Eriksen echoed this view, praising Indonesia’s leadership in balancing forest preservation with economic opportunities.
“You have shown the world how forestry programs can align with global economic growth and create new jobs,” he said as quoted on Antara.
As of now, Indonesia and Norway have maintained forestry cooperation for 75 years. Eriksen expressed pride in continuing the partnership under Raja Juli Antoni’s leadership, emphasizing its strong foundation built on ambition, mutual respect, and commitment.
“This partnership reflects the long-standing friendship between Indonesia and Norway. We have come a long way together and will continue to grow stronger,” Eriksen added as quoted on Antara.
