Airlangga Hartarto Steps Down as Golkar Chairman

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Airlangga Hartarto announced that he was stepping down as Chairman of the DPP Golkar Party. He conveyed this through an official video broadcast by the Golkar Party in Jakarta, Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Airlangga explained that the reason he stepped down was because he wanted to maintain the integrity of the Golkar Party. He also wanted to ensure stability during the transition of government from Indonesian President Joko Widodo to President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

"By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, and with the guidance of God Almighty, I hereby declare my resignation as chairman of the DPP Golkar Party," Airlangga said in the video, as reported by Antara.

Airlangga continued his resignation as chairman of Golkar as of Saturday, August 10, 2024 evening.

"Furthermore, as a large, mature party, the DPP Golkar Party will immediately prepare an organizational mechanism in accordance with the provisions of the applicable organizational bylaws," he explained.

Airlangga continued that the next process that runs within Golkar, including related to the appointment of an acting chairman and preparations to hold an extraordinary national meeting (munaslub) will take place peacefully, orderly, and continue to uphold the dignity of the Golkar Party.

He also thanked Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, President-elect Prabowo Subianto, Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka. He also thanked a number of Golkar seniors, namely Jusuf Kalla, Aburizal Bakrie, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Akbar Tanjung, Agung Laksono, and Muhammad Hatta.

"To the board of the DPP Golkar Party, as well as to all our party leaders at the provincial, city and district levels, I believe we can continue to maintain the solidity and continuity of the Golkar Party," Airlangga said.

He continued, "I can only express my deep gratitude at a time like this."

At the end of his announcement, Airlangga closed with a verse of the Golkar Party Hymn. "Long live the Golongan Karya! May God always protect it," he said.
