TikTok Launches Youth Council to Improve Safety Measures
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - On Monday (3/25), TikTok announced the launch of its new global Youth Council, an initiative designed to strengthen the app's safety measures for young users. Partnering with online safety specialist Praesidio Safeguarding, the council brings together 15 teenagers aged 15-18 from various countries, including the US, UK, Kenya, and Indonesia.
Formed in December 2023, the council recently held its second meeting, attended by TikTok CEO Shou Chew. This gathering aimed to establish their priorities for 2024, which focus on creating a safe and inclusive space for young people to express themselves authentically on the app.
One key initiative involves launching new media literacy campaigns to address issues like misinformation and AI-generated content, equipping users with the tools to navigate the platform critically and safely. The council had previously emphasized the importance of educational campaigns during its first meeting.
