Yokohama’s First Indonesian Mosque Begins Construction

SEAToday.com, Yokohama – A group of Indonesian citizens in Japan, united under the Cinta Quran Foundation, has officially begun the construction of the first Indonesian mosque in Yokohama. The groundbreaking ceremony for the As-Sholihin Mosque took place on Friday (January 10).

“We hope this mosque will not only serve as a place of worship but also as a center for social activities that strengthen cross-cultural relationships in Japan,” said Ustadz Fatih Karim, Founder and Advisory Board member of the Cinta Quran Foundation.

Ustadz Fatih explained that the mosque will have a building area of 650 m², constructed on a 397 m² plot of land. The mosque will have a capacity for 600 worshippers. According to him, the mosque is designed as a multifunctional spiritual center, not only serving as a prayer space but also providing a center for new Muslims, a baitul maal (charity center), a halal mart, and a space for Muslim community activities.

“In Japan, all buildings are given attention, including our mosque. Therefore, this mosque will be built with three floors in a modern design that is comfortable for worship,” he said.

He further mentioned that although the mosque has not been fully constructed yet, many new Muslims have already taken their shahada (testimony of faith) at the site. “Alhamdulillah, with Allah's guidance, many Japanese people have embraced Islam at the location where the mosque will be built,” he added.

The Cinta Quran Foundation invites the public to support the construction of this mosque as a contribution to spreading Islam in Japan.
