Pope Francis' Funeral to Be Held on April 26th

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The funeral of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, according to an official Vatican statement.
Pope Francis' funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. local time or 3:00 p.m. WIB in St. Peter's Basilica Square at the Vatican.
The head of the Holy See's College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, will lead the funeral mass which will also be attended by patriarchs, cardinals, archbishops, bishops and priests from around the world.
From St. Peter's Basilica, the body of the late Pope Francis was taken to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, Italy, to be buried according to the will of the supreme leader of the Catholic Church.
The decision was made at a meeting of cardinals on Tuesday (4/22) morning, while the conclave to elect a new pope will begin on May 5, 2025.
The body of the late Pope Francis will be moved from his residence at Casa Santa Marta to be laid to rest in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican on Wednesday (4/23).
The Holy See Press Office said Francis' body will be laid to rest in the basilica until the day of his funeral on Saturday (4/26).
The moving ceremony will begin on Wednesday at 9 a.m. local time (2 p.m. WIB) with a joint prayer led by the Camerlengo or chief housekeeper of the Vatican, Cardinal Kevin Farrell.
The casket containing the body of Pope Francis will be carried through Santa Marta Square and Roman Protomartyr Square, to St. Peter's Square and then enter the central door of St. Peter's Basilica.
At the altar of confession, Cardinal Farrell will lead the Liturgy of the Word, which finally marks the beginning of the visitation of the faithful to pray for and see Pope Francis for the last time.
