SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has officially set Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1446 H on Monday, March 31, 2025.

“Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1446 H falls on Monday, March 31, 2025,” said Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar at the press conference of the Isbat 1 Syawal 1446 H session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, Jakarta, Saturday (3/29)

The announcement was made based on the results of the Isbat session held by the Religious Affairs Ministry on Saturday (3/29), after hilal monitoring at 33 points in Indonesia.

The Isbat session was chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar and attended by leaders of the House of Representatives Commission VIII, leaders of the Indonesian Ulema Council, Director General of Islamic Guidance and representatives of other Islamic organizations.

The results of rukyatul hilal conducted by the Ministry of Religion's Hisab Rukyat Team stated that the hilal height in all parts of Indonesia has not met the criteria of the Minister of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS).

The hilal height in all parts of Indonesia is still below the horizon, with an altitude between -3°15'28“ (-3.26°) to -1°04'34” (-1.08°), and an elongation angle between 1°36'23“ (1.61°) to 1°12'53” (1.21°).

Referring to the MABIMS criteria, the beginning of the Hijri month is determined if the hilal has a minimum height of 3° and the elongation or angular distance between two celestial bodies reaches 6.4°.

However, Nasaruddin emphasized that the Ministry of Religious Affairs had received information that the hilal was not visible. This information is obtained from the hilal rukyatul team in various places throughout Indonesia.

Therefore, the method applied is istikmal or perfecting/rounding the number of months to 30 days.

He also hopes that with the results of the Isbat Session, Eid al-Fitr can be celebrated by all Muslims in Indonesia with joy.
