SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Narcotic Investigation Center (NIC) Task Force of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) successfully thwarted the smuggling of 74 kilograms of marijuana by an interprovincial drug network operating between Mandailing Natal and Jakarta.

NIC Task Force Head, Police Commissioner Zulkarnaen Harahap, stated on Sunday that the bust took place on February 16.

Authorities received intelligence about a shipment of marijuana from Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra, to Jakarta via a box truck traveling by road.

Acting on this tip, the Special Team of Sub-Directorate 3, Dittipidnarkoba Bareskrim Polri, conducted surveillance and successfully intercepted the vehicle in West Pasaman, West Sumatra, at 1:15 PM WIB on February 16.

"The team arrested two male suspects," Zulkarnaen confirmed, as quoted on Antara.

The suspects, identified as D and I, were couriers, while another suspect, S, remains at large.

Police seized 74 kilograms of marijuana, concealed in four sacks camouflaged with fruit, along with two mobile phones.

Zulkarnaen stated that the operation aligns with President Prabowo’s Astacita vision to strengthen governance and combat crime, including corruption, drugs, gambling, and smuggling.

He also emphasized National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s directive to intensify drug eradication at all levels.
