Afghanistan Refugees Face Mass Deport from Pakistan

The Pakistani government will deport illegal immigrants including Afghanistan refugees. In a press conference, the caretaker of the Interior Ministry, Sarfraz Bugti said that the deadline for them to leave the country is before November 1st, 2023. Otherwise, they will face mass deportation by the authorities.

Pakistan has been hosting refugees from Afghanistan since the end of 2022. The number is 1,3 million who have been registered and 427 thousand persons who are similar with refugees situation. This information is provided by the UN refugee agency.

The presence of refugees in Pakistan has been controversial, as they have experienced harsh action from the police and threats of deportation previously. Bagti also claimed that Pakistan has been attacked by Afghan nationals. He said that they have evidence of the Afghanista's actions.

Bugti explained that all businesses and properties of the illegal immigrants will be confiscated. Some legal action will also be taken against the citizens or companies of Pakistan who helped the illegal immigrants by providing accommodation or facilities.

The next step is seizing anyone with fake identity cards. Those who have illegal properties built on fake documents will also be seized by the authorities.

Afghanistan refugees have settled in Pakistan since 1979 when they tried to escape from Soviet expansion. They lived in the country during the world's biggest crisis at that time.

The second refugee wave came to Pakistan in 2021 after Kabul was taken by the Taliban.

Nonprofit organization Amnesty International said that the Afghan refugees in Pakistan are not receiving international attention.
