Glass Bridge Tragedy, Use 12 mm Thick Tempered Glass
Seatoday.com – Jakarta. The tragedy of the glass bridge at The Geong Banyumas killed 1 person and 1 other person was injured.
Various related parties investigated the incident. One of them is a team from the Banyumas Regency Public Works Department (DPU), which checked the type of glass used.
DPU Officer for Building Arrangement, Imam Wibowo, said the team saw that it was the glass that fell, not the construction. The type of glass used is tempered glass with a thickness of 12 mm.
The team will check the glass thickness in more detail. Imam added that each type of glass is treated differently, whether it breaks into fragments or slabs.
He also explained that the cause of the glass breaking was not yet known. The broken glass was a single plate measuring 122.4 cm. They did not examine building construction in general.
The Central Java Police Forensic Laboratory has also checked the building construction, especially the suitability of the glass used.
During the investigation process, the fact was revealed that the owner had never carried out special maintenance and feasibility tests for The Geong Glass Bridge.
Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto, Nor Intang Setyo, was also involved in the investigation into the cause of the bridge glass breaking.
He said that there were several differences in the color of the glass installed. This indicates that the bridge consisted of used glass because several holes were also found. Further proof is needed in this case.
