Drought in Brazil reveals ancient rock engraving on the banks of the Amazon river

Seatoday.com - Jakarta. Due to severe drought in Brazil, dozens of ancient engravings carved along the bank of the Amazon River have been revealed.
With the worsening of the drought, engravings from a special site that was uncovered and registered in 2010, have reappeared and more and more engravings have been identified. Beatriz Carneiro of Brazil's Institute for Historical and Artistic Heritage said about the fact.
This site is invaluable, especially for understanding the first people to inhabit the region. Most of them are carvings of human faces. The shape is oval or rectangular. The faces are carved with smiles or serious expressions.
One place in the indentation of a rock is believed to be a place for sharpening arrows and spears by the ancient people.
Archeology allows us to understand how pre-colonial populations lived, so sites like this will provide very important data.
Scientists and the public are happy with the emersion of this site to find out more about their ancestors who lived in the area.
Lívia Oliveira, a resident of the Amazon's largest city, Manaus, said that she thinks everyone should come and see the site because sometimes we doubt it. We thought about the people who came before us, namely our ancestors,"
This discovery also indicates this group also experienced a period of severe drought until the river water level reached the same as it is now.
The drought which happened recently, is the worst drought conditions affecting half a million people in the Amazon at the end of this year.
