SEAToday.com, Gaza - At least 70 Palestinians were killed and more than 200 were wounded after Israel’s new offensive into Khan Younis on Monday (7/22), announced the Gaza Health Ministry.

The Israeli military reportedly sent tanks into the city after issuing evacuation orders for the people to leave the area of eastern Khan Younis sector of the al-Mawasi humanitarian zone, which has been designated as “safe zone”. The tanks entered the area, forcing people to flee under fire. The area was also said to be bombarded by air.

An estimate of 400,000 people were living in the affected areas, said Palestinian officials. They had begun leaving their house but there was not enough time to safely move before the strike began.

Israel justified its new operation to the area by saying that it had been used to launch attacks to Israeli forces. Their statement urged people to relocate to the “adjusted humanitarian area of al-Mawasi”.
