BRIN Ungkap Peninggalan Prasejarah Berusia 2,800 Tahun di Sumba
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Penelitian Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) mengungkap peninggalan prasejarah di Pulau Sumba yang berusia setidaknya 2.800 tahun, Kamis (11/7).
Penelitian dilakukan oleh peneliti Pusat Riset Arkeologi Lingkungan, Maritim, dan Budaya Berkelanjutan (PR ALMBB) BRIN Retno Handini ini meneliti kekayaan peninggalan prasejarah Austronesia dan budaya berkelanjutan di Pulau Sumba. Penelitian berfokus di tiga situs di Pulau Sumba, Lambanapu, Mborombaku, dan Melolo.
Hasil penelitiannya menyimpulkan bahwa Pulau Sumba telah dihuni manusia sejak 2.800 tahun lalu, dengan pertanggalan tertua ditemukan di Situs Melolo. Dalam situs ini ditemukan 26 kerangka individu dan kendi yang diukir. Situs Mborombaku diperkirakan sebagai lokasi leluhur Sumba pertama kali mendarat, dimana ditemukan keramik seladon Fujian Dinasti Yuan abad ke-13.
Kepala Pusat Riset ALMBB BRIN Marlon Ririmase mengatakan temuan Austronesia merupakan riset arkeologi penting, terutama terkait asal-usul masyarakat dan budaya Nusantara.
