SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is intensifying efforts to eradicate online gambling in the country. Indonesia is said to be in an emergency condition related to online gambling activities with victims estimated to be more than 2.3 million people.

 

The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) reported financial transactions related to online gambling have experienced a significant surge. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the transaction nominal exceeded IDR 100 trillion. Not only that, in the last five years, the nominal transactions related to online gambling have also continued to increase. The figure in 2023 has increased by 8,136.77 percent from the figure in 2019.
