SEAToday.com, Uttar Pradesh - At least 33 polling staff in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on suspicion of heatstroke on the last day of elections on Saturday (6/1). The announcement came from the election officials on Sunday (6/2).

India has been experiencing a scorching heat since the beginning of May. The capital, New Delhi, recorded the highest temperature at 52.9°C last week. There have been multiple reports of deaths due to heat-related illnesses. At least 56 people have lost their lives, and nearly 25,000 cases of suspected heatstroke were reported from March to May.

The weather office predicts temperatures will be less severe in the coming days. The early arrival of the monsoon season in the southern state of Kerala last week is expected to bring some relief.
