SEAToday.com, Rafah -  At least 45 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in Rafah, southern Gaza, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Monday (5/27).

The attack struck the Tal As-Sultan neighborhood, home to thousands of displaced Palestinians. Notably, this area was designated a safe zone by the Israeli military before it launched its ground offensive in Gaza.

Officials reported that many bodies were burned beyond recognition after the strike ignited a massive fire that engulfed the camp. Most of the casualties were women and children. The death toll is expected to climb as critically injured individuals with severe burns fight for their lives.

The attack, widely condemned as a "massacre", sparked international outrage. The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) described the scene as "hell on earth". Leaders from multiple countries urged Israel to respect international law, highlighting that the strike occurred just two days after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered the Israeli military to end its offensive in Rafah.
