Seven World Central Kitchen Aid Workers Killed in Israeli Strike
SEAToday.com, Gaza - Seven members of the aid organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, Monday (4/1). Those killed were from Australia, Poland, United Kingdom, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada, and Palestine.
Statement from the group said that their team was traveling in a “deconflicted zone” in armored cars branded with WCK logo. Despite having coordinated with the Israeli military, the convoy was hit as they left the Deir al-Balah warehouse. World Central Kitchen CEO Erin Gore has condemned the attack, deeming it unforgivable. “This is not only an attack against WCK, this is an attack on humanitarian organizations,” Gore said.
Following the attack, WCK said it will pause its operation in the region and will soon make decisions about their future work.
WCK is a U.S.-based non-governmental organization currently coordinating the distribution of hundreds of tons of food aid which was brought to Gaza via sea back in March. The second maritime aid shipment is expected to arrive in Gaza soon, having departed from Cyprus on March 30.
