SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry estimates that the number of homecoming travelers in 2024 Eid al-Fitr will reach 193.6 million people or 71.7 percent of Indonesia's population.

The number was obtained from a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Transportation Ministry together with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Communication and Information Technology Ministry, involving a number of transportation experts. The figure has increased compared to the 2023 Eid al-Fitr traveler number which reached 123.8 million people.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that these results have been submitted to President Joko Widodo and a number of local governments, agencies, and related institutions to prepare operations and policies for comprehensive handling of traffic jam. According to him, a number of preventive measures such as setting the time of homecoming, providing discounted mass transportation fares for early homecoming, and traffic engineering can be done to address the issue.
