SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Gempa bumi sebesar 6,2 magnitudo mengguncang Kabupaten Pulau Morotai, Provinsi Maluku Utara, pada Selasa (4/2) pukul 04.35 WIT.
Direktur Pusat Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami BMKG Daryono mengatakan pusat gempa terletak di laut pada kedalaman 96 kilometer dengan koordinat 2,87° Lintang Utara (LU) : 128,05° Bujur Timur (BT) atau berjarak 71 kilometer dari arah timur laut Pulau Doi, Maluku Utara.
Gempa yang terjadi ini adalah gempa menengah yang dipicu adanya aktivitas intraslab lempeng laut Maluku di pantai utara Pulau Morotai dengan mekanisme pergerakan geser naik (oblique thrust).
Namun, dipastikan bahwa gempa ini tidak berpotensi menimbulkan tsunami dan belum menunjukkan adanya aktivitas gempa bumi susulan berdasarkan hasil monitoring BMKG hingga pukul 04.55 WIT.
Masyarakat Pulau Morotai di Maluku Utara dan sekitarnya diimbau untuk tetap tenang dan tidak terpengaruh oleh isu yang diragukan kebenarannya selain dari hasil analisis peristiwa menyeluruh yang dilaporkan oleh BMKG.
Masyarakat juga diharapkan untuk selalu mengikuti dan menaati panduan mitigasi dampak bencana dari Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) di Maluku Utara.
