Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police Add 40 ETLE Mobile Units

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Traffic Directorate of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police will add 40 units of “Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement” (ETLE) Mobile with a target of 120 million traffic violators caught on camera by 2025.
“For now there are 10 ETLE Mobile and hopefully in 2025, we will also get assistance from the local government, which is around 40 ETLE Mobile,” said Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, Director of Traffic for the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police.
The number of ETLE Mobile in operation can record an average of 10 million traffic violators per month.
“If one month is 10 million, we average 10 million, multiplied by 12, means 120 million violators,” he said.
Based on data from the Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, the number of traffic accidents in Jakarta during 2024 was recorded at 12,555 cases.
Of these, 677 road users were killed and 1,794 were seriously injured.
“This becomes our concern that if we calculate it means that per day, the average person in Jakarta dies is two people,” said Latif.
The high number of traffic accidents must also be taken into consideration not only by the police, but also related institutions.
“Overall, from a number of related parties, we are the ones who handle the field, but overall we are responsible for the safety of those on the road,” he said.
To reduce the fatality rate, it is necessary to educate and enforce the law more effectively against violators.
“There must be a force that can suppress, must be able to provide direct education, namely law enforcement with prosecution. The current enforcement that we will do is electronic enforcement,” he said.
