SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) menaikkan status aktivitas vulkanik Gunung Iya di Kabupaten Ende, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) dari Level II (Waspada) ke III (Siaga) mulai 5 November 2024, pukul 18.00 WITA.
Melansir dari Antara, kenaikan status gunung ini lantaran meningkatnya aktivitas vulkanik dalam beberapa hari terakhir. Hal ini diungkapkan oleh Kepala Badan Geologi Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral Muhammad Wafid.
Dalam pemantauan sejak awal Oktober hingga 4 November 2024, terekam tanda-tanda kegempaan signifikan.
Pada periode ini, tercatat 28 kali gempa tremor harmonik, 77 gempa tremor non-harmonik, serta 173 gempa vulkanik dalam.
Kemudian, frekuensi gempa vulkanik dalam terus meningkat sejak Agustus 2024. Ini menandakan adanya tekanan kuat akibat pergerakan magma ke arah permukaan.
Aktivitas gempa dangkal pun semakin sering terjadi sejak 16 Oktober 2024.
"Ini menunjukkan tekanan magma yang semakin kuat dan bisa memicu erupsi kapan saja," ujar Muhammad Wafid.
Sementara, asap kawah dengan intensitas sedang hingga tebal terlihat mencapai ketinggian 300 meter dari puncak gunung tersebut.
PVMBG pun mengimbau masyarakat sekitar untuk waspada dan menghindari aktivitas di sekitar kawasan puncak gunung ini.
