Jakarta’s BBNKB Tax Exemption in Effect Through January 2025

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has announced a tax exemption for vehicle ownership transfer fees (BBNKB), effective (10/29/2024). According to the latest regulations under Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 41/2024, a 0% BBNKB rate applies to second and subsequent transfers, providing significant financial relief for vehicle owners.
“The Governor provides a regional tax incentive in the form of a 0 percent Motor Vehicle Transfer Fee (BBNKB) for the second and subsequent transfers of motor vehicles,” states Article 2, paragraph (1) of Jakarta Governor Regulation 41/2024, as quoted by Bapenda Jakarta (10/28/2024)
This tax exemption officially took effect three working days after its ratification on October 18, 2024. Jakarta residents can benefit from the 0% BBNKB rate from October 23, 2024, until January 4, 2025, when new BBNKB policies under Regional Regulation No. 1/2024 will replace it.
Additionally, administrative fines and interest penalties will be waived for vehicles eligible for the 0% BBNKB. The policy aims to encourage ownership transfers within this exemption period and ease financial burdens on residents.
However, taxpayers who settled BBNKB payments before October 23, 2024, are ineligible for a refund under the new policy guidelines. “No applications for tax refund on prior BBNKB payments will be accepted,” affirms Article 5 of the Governor’s Regulation.
