Apostolic Journey of Pope Francis in Indonesia: Key Events
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Pope Francis’ visit to Indonesia marks a significant moment in the country’s history, bringing together religious and civil communities for a series of meaningful engagements.
Starting from Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the Pope will be welcomed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, marking the beginning of his apostolic journey in the region.
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the day will commence with a formal Welcome Ceremony at Merdeka Palace, followed by an Honorary Visit to the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the same location.
Later, Pope Francis will address the Government Officials, Civil Society, and Diplomatic Corps in the State Palace Hall.
The day continues with a Private Meeting with Members of the Society of Jesus (SJ) at the Vatican Embassy, followed by a Meeting with Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Religious, Seminarians, and Catechists at the Cathedral Church of Santa Maria Assumpta. The day will conclude with a Meeting with Youth from Scholas Occurrentes at Grha Pemuda.
Thursday, September 5, 2024, will see Pope Francis engaging in an Interfaith Meeting at Istiqlal Mosque, where he will deliver a speech promoting peace and understanding.
Following this, he will meet with Beneficiaries of Charitable Organizations at the headquarters of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference. The day will culminate with a Holy Mass at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, where the Pope will deliver his homily to a large congregation.
Finally, on Friday, September 6, 2024, the Pope will participate in a Departure Ceremony at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport before departing for Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, continuing his apostolic journey in the region.
