Joint Operations Forces Ensure Safety of Villagers Amidst OPM Attacks in Central Papua's Intan Jaya Regency

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) led by Afrianus Bagubau and Keny Tipagau continue to carry out attacks and security disturbances against the Papuan people.
Most recently, on Thursday (5/9), they attacked the 1705-05/Homeyo Military Subdistrict Command Station in Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua.
In response to the attacks, joint officers from the Indonesian Armed Forces' Habema Operations Command and the Special Forces Command's Nanggala Task Force pursued them and succeeded in arresting and taking down several OPM members.
As a result of this operation, the residents of Pogapa Village, Homeyo District, felt safe and did not evacuate their homes. In addition, the joint military and police team continues to take proactive steps to secure the area from the OPM.
Previously, OPM was reported to have carried out several attacks in Homeyo District, from Tuesday (4/30) to Thursday (5/2). These attacks included the killing of a youth, the burning of a public elementary school building, shooting at the Homeyo Police Station and the 1705-05/Homeyo Military Subdistrict Command Station, and the burning of the local military personnel’s house.
