SEAToday.com, Nairobi - Kenya hosted the first Green Games Summit (KTT) which was held on Saturday (24/2/2024). This summit is a series to welcome the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) on 26 February - 1 March 2024 in Nairobi.

The Green Games Summit is produced by Playing for the Planet Alliance under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Pan Africa Gaming Group (PAGG). This environmental conference encourages the role of the gaming industry in making Africa's green agenda a success.

Reporting from Antara News, Head of UNEP's Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit, Sam Barratt, said that games can also be a tool to open public awareness of the environmental crisis.

"The inaugural Green Games Summit in Africa brought together several experts in the business to share their ideas about what the industry can do regarding this agenda," he explained.

One of the results of this summit project is the Green Game Jam, the target of which is to reach 1 million players this year to take action against the threat of environmental damage. Apart from that, some of Africa's best game developers are also taking part in this conference.

PAGG Chair, Jay Shapiro reviewed that there are more than 1 billion young African people who are starting to be active in the digital world. With the game project being developed from this summit, Africa can become a pioneer of a new style of environmental care movement.
