Indonesia and UNICEF Commit to Protecting Children in Digital and Real Worlds

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have committed to strengthening child protection both online and offline.

"Our children deserve safe spaces, whether in the digital world or in real life. This is about building a future generation that is creative, resilient, and secure," said Minister Meutya Haid, as quoted on Antara, during a meeting with UNICEF Indonesia Representative Maniza Zaman at the ministry’s Jakarta office on Tuesday.

UNICEF is supporting the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Management for Child Protection (PP TUNAS), which covers age verification, child data privacy, and digital literacy for both parents and children.

Meutya expressed appreciation for UNICEF's role in shaping PP TUNAS, adding, as quoted on Antara, "implementation challenges are real, but collaboration will help us succeed. This is about the future of our nation."

The Ministry is also developing the "Child-Friendly Cities" initiative, aimed at creating more safe and creative spaces for children in the real world.

UNICEF’s Maniza Zaman praised Indonesia’s efforts as bold and forward-looking. “Indonesia is not only leading in ASEAN but also has the power to inspire globally. This is a critical step that other nations should follow,” she said as quoted on Antara.

UNICEF pledged continued support, including helping local governments strengthen child protection as a nationwide movement.
