SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Palestine’s UN envoy, Riyad Mansour, has urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to take immediate action against Israel’s large-scale assault on Gaza.

Speaking at a UNSC meeting on March 18, he condemned the violence, stating that Palestinians are being massacred, denied humanitarian aid, and arbitrarily detained.

"We strongly condemn these crimes. They are unjustifiable and must end immediately," Mansour declared, as quoted on Antara, warning that inaction could render the UNSC irrelevant.

He called for an end to food, water, and medical restrictions on Palestinians during Ramadan and demanded the council use its authority to act.

He also backed the $53 billion Gaza reconstruction proposal from the Arab League summit, emphasizing that no Palestinians should be forcibly displaced.

"This is a historic moment. The coming days will be decisive. We must secure a ceasefire, not prolong war," he urged as quoted on Antara.

The Arab League agreement followed a controversial plan by the US President Donald Trump to annex Gaza and turn it into a luxury hub—an idea widely rejected as ethnic cleansing.

Meanwhile, Israel launched its largest military operation since the January ceasefire, with airstrikes killing over 404 Palestinians and injuring 562, according to Palestine’s Health Ministry. Many remain trapped under rubble.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed over 48,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

In response, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallantfor war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel also faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
