SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Ukraine announced its readiness to implement a 30-day ceasefire with Russia following negotiations between Kyiv and Washington in Saudi Arabia.

"Ukraine expresses its readiness to accept the US proposal for an immediate temporary ceasefire for 30 days, which can be extended based on mutual agreement and simultaneous implementation by the Russian Federation," the joint statement from the Jeddah talks read as quoted on Antara.

The statement emphasized that both nations have taken a significant step toward restoring lasting peace in Ukraine. Washington will convey to Russia the need for a reciprocal commitment from Moscow to achieve a peace agreement.

According to the joint statement, the US will immediately lift the temporary suspension on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and resume security assistance for Kyiv.

The Ukrainian delegation also stressed during the negotiations that Kyiv’s European partners must be involved in the peace process.

"Both delegations agreed to appoint their negotiation teams and immediately begin talks to achieve lasting peace, ensuring Ukraine’s long-term security," the statement continued, as quoted on Antara, highlighting the importance of humanitarian aid efforts as part of the peace process, particularly during the proposed ceasefire period.

"Finally, the two presidents agreed to finalize a comprehensive agreement on the development of Ukraine’s critical mineral resources to expand the nation’s economy and ensure Ukraine’s long-term prosperity and security," it added as quoted on Antara.

The talks followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss regional stability and international support for Ukraine.
