Paramilitary Group in Sudan Have Killed Over 200 People in a Three-day Assault

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Sudanese paramilitary forces have killed over 200 people in a three-day assault south of Khartoum.

The Emergency Lawyers network, which monitors human rights violations, stated that hundreds more were wounded or missing, with some feared drowned while fleeing across the White Nile.

According to Sudan’s foreign ministry, which is aligned with the army, the attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) resulted in 433 fatalities, including children.

“Some bodies are still lying in the street, and some were killed in their homes and no one can reach them,” the medical source said, as quoted on The Guardian, requesting anonymity for safety reasons.

The attack targeted the villages of al-Kadaris and al-Khelwat, forcing thousands to flee.

The UN reported “horrifying” sexual violence, with dozens of women raped and families displaced.

The RSF has been accused of war crimes, including genocide against non-Arab minorities in Darfur. The war, ongoing since April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced over 12 million people.

Currently, control over White Nile State is divided between the army and RSF, with fighting escalating in recent weeks. The army has also been accused of targeting civilians in Khartoum.

UNICEF warns that children are trapped in a “living nightmare” of violence and abduction. The UN condemned the widespread atrocities and called for expanding the ICC’s jurisdiction and the existing arms embargo to all of Sudan.

Meanwhile, RSF forces continue their offensive in Darfur, attempting to seize full control of the region.
