SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Mount Anak Krakatau erupted and threw volcanic ash approximately 1000 meters above its peak.

According to Antara, the volcanic ash is heading north. The eruption itself occurred at 05.37 WIB. "The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 55 millimeters and a duration of 20 seconds," said Mount Krakatau Observation Post Officer Junomo.

Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at Level III or alert status. The mountain, which is 195 meters high above sea level, was recorded as having erupted 129 times from January 1 to December 14, 2023.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) stated that Mount Anak Krakatau's volcanic activity has remained very active since the eruption in 2018. The eruption changed the body morphology of Anak Krakatau.

Mount Anak Krakatau itself is monitored visually and instrumentally from the Pasauran Pandeglang Volcano Observation Post, Banten and the Hargo Pancuran Kalianda Volcano Observation Post, Lampung.
