Menkomdigi Asks Digital Platforms be Responsible for Their Content
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid emphasized that digital platforms must be responsible for harmful content. Platforms that fail to remove child pornography content within 1x4 hours will be subject to large fines.
Meutya said protecting children from the negative impacts of the internet is the government's top priority. "There is no tolerance for negligent platforms," she said in a press release on Monday as reported by Antara.
The statement was made after the inauguration of the Ministry of Communication and Information officials in Jakarta on January 31, 2025. The Decree of the Minister of Communication and Information Number 552 of 2024 requires digital platforms to immediately remove harmful content within a specified time limit.
According to the regulations, platforms are required to remove child pornography and terrorism content within 4 hours after the report is received. The policy aims to reduce the negative impacts caused by harmful content in the digital world.
The government is focusing on removing other negative content, such as gambling and illegal investments. This regulation targets electronic system organizers in the private sector in accordance with applicable provisions.
For ease of supervision, the government has designed SAMAN, a system for recording administrative sanctions on platforms that violate. SAMAN is proof of the government's commitment to creating a safe digital space, especially for children.
Meutya emphasized that the policy is in line with other countries that have implemented similar regulations. "Indonesia must not be left behind in protecting society from negative content," she said.
