SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The BMKG Hang Nadim Batam Station, on Friday, (12/13/2024), issued an early warning regarding potential coastal flooding (rob) in the Riau Islands (Kepri). This phenomenon is linked to the full moon and its Perigee, occurring on December 12, which is expected to increase maximum tidal levels during the stated period.

"Coastal communities are advised to remain vigilant," said Ramlan, Head of BMKG Hang Nadim Batam. He noted that this event could disrupt transportation, community activities, and loading operations near ports. Coastal areas, particularly in Batam, Lingga, Tanjungpinang, and Bintan, are at risk.

Affected areas in Batam include Batu Aji, Batu Ampar, Sekupang, and Nongsa. In Lingga, the regions at risk are Singkep Barat, Singkep Pesisir, and Senayang. Coastal flooding is also expected in Tanjungpinang, including Tanjungpinang Kota and Bukit Bestari.

Bintan is similarly vulnerable, particularly in Bintan Utara, Teluk Sebong, and Bintan Timur. Residents are urged to remain vigilant, especially those relying on sea transportation or conducting activities near the shoreline.

"This could impact transportation around ports and coastal areas, community activities, and loading operations at ports," Ramlan emphasized, underlining the importance of safety measures and monitoring for any significant impacts in vulnerable areas.

List of Areas

Coastal Flood Risk:

  • Batam: Batu Aji, Batu Ampar, Sekupang, Nongsa.
  • Lingga: Singkep Barat, Singkep Pesisir, Senayang.
