SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The BMKG has issued a warning for extreme weather in Central Java, spanning December 12-18, 2024. “Atmospheric disturbances, such as the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) and a tropical cyclone seed south of Java, are increasing the potential for severe conditions,” explained Teguh Wardoyo, Head of BMKG Tunggul Wulung Cilacap.
Heavy rain with lightning and strong winds is expected in various regions. "Several areas, including Magelang, Pekalongan, and Semarang, are likely to experience significant impacts," he added. Communities are urged to stay alert for risks like flooding, landslides, and falling trees.
The maritime sector faces challenges due to high waves. "Wave heights in the southern Indian Ocean could reach 4 meters, particularly affecting areas from West Java to Yogyakarta through December 14," said Wardoyo. Small vessels are advised to avoid sailing in these conditions.
Residents living in disaster-prone areas are advised to prepare for potential hazards. The BMKG emphasizes the importance of vigilance, especially during heavy rains, as localized atmospheric patterns are conducive to severe weather.
