SEAToday.com, Jakarta - BMKG forecasts thunderstorms across many Indonesian regions on Wednesday, (12/11/2024).
"Light rain is expected in Medan, while Padang and Tanjungpinang should prepare for thunderstorms," said BMKG forecaster Efa Septiani. Overcast skies are likely in Pekanbaru and Pangkal Pinang.
Java will see a mix of light rain and thunderstorms. "Jakarta, Serang, Semarang, and Surabaya may experience light rain, while Bandung and Yogyakarta have a higher chance of thunderstorms," she explained. Meanwhile, Bali and Nusa Tenggara will have light rain in Denpasar and Kupang, with Mataram at risk of storms.
Kalimantan will experience diverse weather patterns, with light rain in Banjarmasin. "Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Samarinda, and Tanjung Selor could see thunderstorms," BMKG warned. In Sulawesi, light rain is expected in Gorontalo and Palu, while Makassar faces moderate rain. Storms may hit Manado, Kendari, and Mamuju.
Eastern Indonesia will also experience widespread rain. "Light rain is forecasted for Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura, while moderate rain is expected in Nabire," she added. Thunderstorms are likely in Ambon and Merauke, prompting heightened awareness in these areas.
Temperatures across Indonesia range from 16°C to 34°C, with humidity levels between 57% and 99%. BMKG has extended its extreme weather alert until December 15, noting heavy rain, particularly in Jabodetabek. "Rainfall could reach up to 100 mm per day by mid-December," warned BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati.
