SEAToday.com, Jakarta - On Thursday, (12/5/2024), thunderstorms are forecasted to affect various regions across Indonesia. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of potential lightning storms in several major cities.
Sumatra will see mixed weather, with Medan and Tanjung Pinang likely experiencing thunderstorms. Meanwhile, cities like Jambi and Lampung may face lighter rain showers.
In Java, cities like Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya should prepare for storms accompanied by lightning, while Yogyakarta could see heavy rainfall.
Jakarta and Serang will likely experience milder rains, offering some relief. Over in Bali and the Nusa Tenggara region, thunderstorms are expected in Kupang and Mataram, with moderate rains predicted for Denpasar. The situation underscores the need for vigilance across these areas.
The stormy pattern extends to Kalimantan, where Pontianak, Banjarmasin, and Tanjung Selor could encounter significant lightning activity. Samarinda is forecasted to have light rain, while Palangkaraya may see moderate downpours.
On Sulawesi, severe weather is expected in Makassar, Mamuju, and Kendari, with heavy rain likely in Palu and Manado. Such conditions demand careful planning for outdoor activities.
Moving further east, Maluku and Papua are not spared. Thunderstorms may occur in Ambon, while cities like Jayapura and Ternate will see lighter rain. Nabire and Merauke can expect moderate rainfall, creating potential travel and safety concerns. BMKG highlights these warnings as part of their broader effort to prepare the nation for extreme weather.
With temperatures ranging from 16°C to 33°C and humidity levels between 56% and 99%, the conditions are ripe for volatile weather. The BMKG has also cautioned against potential floods in West Java, Lampung, Banten, and Jakarta due to a cold surge from Siberia. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
