President Prabowo Voices Strong Support for Palestinian Independence in First Presidential Speech
SEAToday.com, Jakarta-In his inaugural speech as the new president at the MPR/DPR building, newly sworn-in President Prabowo Subianto addressed a range of significant issues, including his firm stance on Palestinian independence.
In his speech, he said that having endured colonization ourselves, we stand firmly against colonization and oppression. Therefore it is our duty to defend those who are suffering under such injustice.
Prabowo also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Palestinian independence. On behalf of the country, he announced readiness to send humanitarian aid to the victims in Gaza, including evacuating wounded victims and traumatized children, as well as preparing hospitals in Indonesia to facilitate them.
Previously, during his tenure as the Defense Minister from 2019 to 2024, Prabowo had already provided significant humanitarian aid to Palestine on behalf of the Indonesian government.
In his speech, Prabowo pledged, alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to fulfill their duties and responsibilities, uphold the Constitution, serve the nation, and prioritize the interests of the people in facing global obstacles and challenges.
He further called on the Indonesian people to unite in becoming a brave nation that is unafraid of challenges, obstacles, or threats.
In his presidential oath, he said, “Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, in the Name of Allah, I promise to carry out the responsibilities of the President of the Republic of Indonesia well and as fair as possible. I will uphold the Constitution and implement all laws and regulations in a straightforward manner, and serve the nation,”
