UK Reaffirms Support for UN Amid Rising Tensions in Middle East

SEAToday.com, Jakarta-The UK has voiced its support for the United Nations (UN) regarding the escalating tensions in the Middle East. This statement was made by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
“Yesterday I spoke with Antonio Guterres (UN Secretary-General) about the situation in the Middle East and the UN's irreplaceable role in addressing challenges in the region,” Lammy shared on the X platform, as quoted by Antara.
Lammy added that the UK “continues to support the Secretary-General and the UN’s vital work around the world.”
This statement comes amid Israel’s intensifying military operations in Lebanon, which have escalated since September 23 under the justification of targeting Hezbollah.
Israel’s onslaught in Lebanon reportedly have killed at least 1,437 people, injured more than 4,123 others, and displaced more than 1.34 million people.
In addition to the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, Israel has also ramped up its attacks in Gaza. Excluding earlier attacks, Israel has killed more than 42,400 Gazans, the majority of whom are women and children, during this year-long strike that began on October 7.
