Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Announces Support for Prabowo-Gibran Government

SEAToday.com, Jakarta-The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has announced its support for the government of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who are set to be officially inaugurated as president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period on October 20, 2024.
PDIP DPP Chairperson and House Speaker Puan Maharani confirmed on Wednesday (10/16), saying that her party firmly supports the upcoming government.
“We are fully supportive of the upcoming government for the sake of developing Indonesia in the future,” Puan said, as reported by Antara.
The daughter of the PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri also emphasized that the party’s internal consensus fully supports Prabowo and Gibran. As a form of support for the new government, PDIP is reportedly prepared to join the upcoming government’s cabinet.
Some of the names that reportedly will join the cabinet are Olly Dondokambey, Abdullah Azwar Anas, and Budi Gunawan. PDIP joining the Prabowo-Gibran government was first reported when Pramono Anung arrived at Prabowo’s residence some time ago.
Rumors have circulated that Pramono, who is also a candidate for Jakarta governor, visited Prabowo with a message from Megawati. Several PDIP officials also began visiting Megawati’s residence on Teuku Umar Street. Reportedly, there were discussions about PDIP entering Prabowo-Gibran’s cabinet.
The public is eagerly waiting for further updates regarding the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati. Initially, the two were expected to meet before October 10, 2024. However, although the inauguration is just days away, the meeting was still not held.
In the 2024 elections, PDIP had nominated Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD as their presidential and vice presidential candidates. However, this pair lost to Prabowo and Gibran.
Prabowo has already called up individuals for ministerial and deputy ministerial candidates as well as candidates for heads of state institutions on Monday (10/14) and Tuesday (10/15). These individuals include politicians, scholars, and ministers in President Joko Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin’s “Indonesia Maju” cabinet.
On Wednesday (10/16), Prabowo called his people to come to his residence in Bukit Hambalang, Bogor, West Java. The meeting was held to discuss various topics related to Indonesia and global affairs.
