40 Indonesians Evacuated from Lebanon Arrive in Indonesia, 116 Choose to Remain in the Country
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - A total of 40 Indonesian citizens and 1 foreigner (Indonesian citizen's spouse) were safely evacuated from Lebanon. The Foreign Affairs Ministry revealed that the 41 evacuees arrived in Indonesia on Monday (10/7) using two commercial flights.
Quoted from the Foreign Affairs Ministry's website, the arrival of the 41 evacuees is part of a long and complex evacuation by road from Lebanon-Damascus, Syria-Amman, Jordan. They were divided into two waves of evacuation that departed from Beirut on October 2 and 3, 2024.
Previously, after the declaration of Alert 1 by the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut on August 4, 2024, 25 Indonesian citizens were successfully evacuated by air. Currently, there are 116 Indonesian citizens still living in Lebanon and the majority choose to remain in Lebanon.
The 41 evacuees consist of 26 men and 15 women, all in good health. They come from several regions in Indonesia, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, and Bali.
Furthermore, they will be repatriated to their respective areas of origin through coordination across ministries/institutions/agencies.
“The Foreign Affairs Ministry again urges Indonesian citizens who are still in Lebanon to continue to increase vigilance, avoid vulnerable locations, limit movement only for essential needs and follow evacuation directions from the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut. For Indonesian citizens who have travel plans to Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Israel, Palestine and Yemen to be able to postpone it until the situation is safe,” Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
