SEAToday.com, Jakarta-General Elections Commission (KPU) member August Mellaz stated on Sunday (11/10) that the KPU will instruct its regional staff to issue a decree (SK) for national holiday on the day of the Regional Heads Elections (Pilkada) which falls on November 27.

“There will be instructions from us to the regional KPU to issue a decree regarding the Pilkada on November 27, 2024,” said Mellaz.

He added that each regional KPU always issued a decree for previous elections.

The rules regarding holidays during elections have been regulated by the law to provide opportunities for people to exercise their voting rights on the day of voting.

“The law states that every election day is a holiday,” he explained.

Voting is carried out simultaneously on holidays based on law.

Previously, on Friday (11/8), State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the government plans to declare the voting day as a national holiday. He said that he would coordinate with the KPU and Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian to discuss it further.

The Pilkada will be held in 37 provinces, 415 regencies, and 93 cities. The total number of candidate pairs that will compete in the Pilkada reaches 1,557 candidate pairs, consisting of 1,169 pairs of regent and deputy regent candidates, and 285 pairs of mayor and deputy mayor candidates.
