Education Ministry Considers Sanctions for 33 Universities After "Ferienjob" Case in Germany

Education Ministry Considers Sanctions for 33 Universities After

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry (Kemendikbudristek) is reviewing the sanctions given to 33 universities involved in human trafficking (TPPO) under the disguise of student internship programs in Germany.

Abdul Haris, Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology of the Ministry, said that this internship program does not meet the criteria for Freedom of Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) activities, which has been clarified by a circular letter from the Director General of Higher Education and Research since October 27, 2023.

In addition, he also mentioned that there was no learning and skill enhancement content in the program, so the Education, Culture and Research Ministry confirmed last October that this activity was contrary to the values or criteria of MBKM.

Abdul Haris said that this incident would be a lesson for the government to improve the supervision of ongoing programs in higher education.
