11 Local Languages Have Extinct, Says Government
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) said that 11 regional languages in Indonesia have become extinct.
The extinct regional languages are Tandia language in West Papua, Mawes language in Papua, Kajeli or Kayeli language in Maluku, Piru language in Maluku, Moksela language in Maluku, Palumata language in Maluku, Ternateno language in North Maluku, Hukumina language in Maluku, Hoti language in Maluku, Serua language in Maluku, and Nila language in Maluku.
Secretary of the Ministry's Language Development and Fostering Agency, Hafidz Muksin, said on Thursday (3/7) that the extinction of these regional languages was influenced by the speakers who no longer used them, and did not pass them on to their children and grandchildren.
