Surfing Becomes After-School Program in West Sumbawa

SEAToday.com, West Sumbawa - The West Sumbawa Regency (KSB) has made surfing an extracurricular activity in schools. The program was launched through cooperation between the local government, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara and related agencies. To date, there are four schools that have adopted surfing as an extracurricular activity, namely Jelenga State Elementary School, Sekongkang State Junior High School 1, Maluk State Junior High School 1, and Jereweh State Junior High School 2.
This after-school program aims to achieve several things, namely to prepare national and international surf athletes and to develop community-based tourism.
The program is also supported by the launch of the "Surfing Masuk Sekolah" book on November 23. The book teaches surfing techniques and the conservation of marine ecosystems in a safe and responsible manner.
The program involves not only education, but also the local surfing community and tourism industry players. West Sumbawa's coastal advantage of quality waves throughout the year makes it ideal to become a major surfing destination and training center.
