SEAToday.com, Trenton - Three people were injured while trying to disarm a man armed with a knife ahead of Friday prayers at a mosque in Canada's Montreal region, on last Friday (9/20)

A Chateauguay police spokesperson told reporters that the victims suffered minor injuries, although one of them had to be taken to hospital. Police stated that the injured victims were in their 50s.

They managed to detain the suspect until police arrived at the scene.

About 100 men, women, and children were inside the Centre Culturel Musulman in Chateauguay, Quebec, when the mosque administrator, Richid Amane, said that a man acted suspiciously after entering the mosque, as reported by CTV News.

Several men approached the suspect and sustained injuries to their hands, while one of the victims was injured on his body.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), Canada's largest non-profit Muslim organization, asked the public to wait for more information before making conclusions.

“We are aware and deeply concerned,” the NCCM wrote on the X platform.

“We are in contact with the local office and will provide more information when it becomes available.”

“However, we currently have no information to suggest what the motive behind this incident is, and we urge our community not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing,” it added.

A 24-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene. Police said that investigators are questioning the suspect.
