Iran Launches Research Satellite Chamran-1 into Space

SEAToday.com, Teheran - On Saturday (9/14), Iran successfully launched its domestically-produced research satellite, Chamran-1, into orbit at an altitude of 550 kilometers. The satellite was propelled by the QAEM-100 solid-fueled rocket, developed by aerospace experts from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
Chamran-1's primary mission is to "test hardware and software systems in order to prove orbital maneuvering technology in height and phase".
Western nations have expressed concerns that Iran's satellite programs could be used as a cover for the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles. Tehran has refuted these allegations, insisting that its missiles are conventional and adhere to the United Nations resolution supporting the 2015 nuclear agreement.
In January of this year, Iran also successfully launched the Soraya satellite into orbit at an altitude of 750 kilometers.
